How to Add Page Numbers to a PDF Online for Free

By Prestofiles Team · · 2 min read

Number the pages of any PDF in under a minute. Choose the position, the style and the starting number, then download the finished file.

Reports, assignments, contracts and merged documents all look more professional with page numbers. They also help readers find a page quickly. You do not need Word or Acrobat to do it.

Steps to number a PDF

  1. Open the Add Page Numbers tool.
  2. Choose your PDF file.
  3. Number position: pick where the number goes, for example bottom centre or top right.
  4. Number format: choose the style you want (see the list below).
  5. Press the button and download your numbered PDF.

The file is handled in your browser, so your document is not sent to a server.

Formats you can choose

  • Plain numbers: 1, 2, 3
  • With a word: Page 1, Page 2
  • With a total: 1 of 10, or Page 1 of 10
  • Slash style: 1 / 10
  • With dashes: - 1 -
  • Roman numerals: i, ii, iii or I, II, III
  • Custom text of your own

Looks and spacing

You can change the font size, the margin from the edge, the font (sans, serif or mono) and the number colour. A small grey number at the bottom centre suits most documents.
