Three formats, three jobs. Learn when each one is the best choice and how to convert between them for free.
Choosing the wrong image format makes files larger or blurrier than they need to be. Here is a quick way to pick.
JPG is made for photos. It gives small files and works on almost every website, form and device. It does not support transparent backgrounds, and heavy compression adds blur.
PNG keeps every pixel exactly and supports transparency. It is a good choice for logos, icons and screenshots with sharp text. Photos saved as PNG are often several times larger than JPG.
WebP is a modern format. It is usually smaller than JPG or PNG at a similar look and supports transparency, so it is popular on fast websites. Some older programs and forms still do not accept it.
| You need | Use |
|---|---|
| A photo for a form or email | JPG |
| A logo or icon with a clear background | PNG |
| The smallest file for a website | WebP |
Use the image converter to change formats in bulk. For a single pair you can open PNG to JPG, JPG to PNG or WebP to PNG. Converting to JPG turns transparent areas white.
